Nuclear Physics Methods Laboratory

The laboratory was officially created at the beginning of 2019 and based on the joint research group with the same name. The research is focused in three directions:

  • Non-accelerator particle physics (GERDA, Troitsk nu-mass, KATRIN, and IAXO experiments)
  • Numerical simulation in particle physics (both accelerator and non-accelerator experiments, atmospheric discharge phenomena, and X-ray physics)
  • Software development for experimental physics (BAT collaboration and libraries for the Kotlin language)

This laboratory was conceived as a bridge between academic science and higher education. The idea was to allow even second-year students to participate in modern world-class physics experiments. The focus on methodology and software is not a random choice. While reaching for better scientific results, modern scientists frequently forget about their instruments. However, one needs better instruments to get better results and without instrumentation, one needs to spend much more effort to achieve their goals. It is important to have good instruments to make the results reliable. Nowadays, there are a lot of interesting and important tasks in scientific software development and we are working on solving some of them. The laboratory invites both researchers and students for continuous work as well as for practice and preparation of diploma thesis.
